Xinjiang Crippled by Urumqi Riots; Curfew Set
On Sunday, July 5th at around 9:30pm Beijing time, a riot began which has crippled Urumqi, the capital of China's Xinjiang province. As with any such event here in China, reports are sketchy and numbers vary drastically. Misleading photos and estimations are already circulating all over the web. Reliable details won't be available for at least another 24 hours, but here is a list of what can be confirmed:
Many Uyghurs have taken to the streets of Urumqi, overturning vehicles and breaking store windows.
Deaths have occurred (reports of three as of this writing, but not confirmed)
A curfew has been set for all residents of Urumqi (official government-issued announcement)
Most videos and pictures about this riot are being blocked in the mainland as soon as they appear on the internet.
What is not clearly known at this time is the reason for the riots. Most people speculate that it has something to do with the incident in Shaoguan in which a toy factory brawl left 2 Uyghurs dead and many more injured. Blame for the Urumqi riot will most likely land on the shoulders of Rabiya Kadeer, one of the most prominent Uyghur leaders who had called for the Uyghurs to protest this incident.
If you are planning on traveling to Xinjiang anytime this week it might be wise to reconsider your plans. Security will definitely be tight and police on high alert at this time.

We would have landed in Urumuqi on July 5th with the adoption scheduled for July 6th......major chills here!!!!!
This is further confirmation that our travel delay was truly part of His plan, and for our benefit....as always....

I mean, what more is there to say. God has His hand on and in your family, and if it wasn't ALREADY obvious, it is undeniable now.
WOW. God truly is good. What an amazing thing to SEE first hand in more than one way the WHY behind God's plans. What a good lesson for those of us in the adoption community to experience endless waiting and delays. We may never get the window into what God protected us from like you have, but this is a GREAT reminder that we can trust Him with the timing of it all because His plan for us is good and best!!!

God's protection over your family and sweet Sophie is absolutely bone chilling.
Sometimes we don't get to see the "why" behind delays or different directions, but my word....God is really showing you the "why" in His mighty hand of protection.
Tami, I couldn't agree more with the two previous posters. We always know that God is in control and can see the reasons behind why things happen the way they do, but so often, we don't clearly see why, and are left wondering... God certainly has you all in the palm of His mighty hand.
Prayers of protection over Sophie and New Day, as well as for you to continue to lean on Him during these difficult times, and while waiting for Sophie to come home safe and sound.

WHOA! This post has left me with chills from my head to my toes... No Kidding, either...I do not recall ever having goosebumps on my cheeks, but I feel them now, and the ones on my legs are still standing on end!!
TAMI! The Lord has clearly proven Himself to your family in the most obvious ways. I believe He is rewarding your unwavering faith and trust in Him through this process, and therefore giving you a glimpse into some of the reasons for your delays. Like Jenna said, this is a good reminder for ALL of us who are in the adoption process...we made not have as clear of answers, but we have to KNOW and TRUST that HE IS IN CONTROL!!! Clearly, God's timing is EVERYTHING!

Wow! Isn't it amazing how God always seems to know what's best for us even when we don't know it ourselves?
Hopefully you'll have your baby soon. Until then, it looks like she's in wonderful hands even though yours are infinitly better. Oh, if only time could pass as quickly BEFORE we get our kids as it seems to AFTER we get them?
