Back to the school theme...All three like their teachers, and that is a definite good start to a new school year.
Sophie was so excited about starting K-garten, and especially about riding the big yellow school bus. In total Sophie style....she hasn't skipped a beat.
She LOVES it..the bus and school!!
(Side note: The pictures were taken on day 3 for Nathan and Owen, so needless to say, they were not dressed up by any means..lol!)
We have half day K-garten here, and although I think Sophie would be totally fine going full day, it's nice to have the time for just the two of us before the boys get home.
I have to say, I was a bit worried about how the kids would respond to Sophie and her leg, but so far there have been no issues. Kids in general are very accepting, and Sophie seems to be making friends easily. Before school started, Sophie and I 'roll played' what to say if someone in school asks about her leg. My goal was to have her comfortable enough to handle the question from kids herself. The most frequent question we seem to get is .... 'what happened to your leg?' After a bit of practice, Sophie now smiles and confidently says 'my leg was just made a bit different and this prosthesis (yes, she says that word as articulate as EVER) that I wear helps me walk', and sometimes she even adds...'and run and jump like you;-)'. That's it....it's over, and they move on.
After talking with the school and Sophie's teachers (who have been so positive about everything!), I gave them a wonderful book that I would highly recommend for any family that has a young child with a limb difference: "Im@gine...Am@zing Me" by Libbi Chilia. Sophie and I must have gone through the book a hundred times, and Sophie was excited her teacher read the book to her class on the first day of school. I guess it was a big hit....the kids were all over it....literally amazed seeing what kids with limb differences can do. Two other GREAT children's books regarding physical differences are 'Oliver*s High Five' and 'The Little Fr0g'
A big mama *sigh*.
Well, after a summer filled with baseball,(still haven't posted the pictures on that...I'm so bad;-(... the boys are 'off' until basketball starts. It's Sophie's turn now.....the Fall is all about her...she starts soccer this Saturday and she had her first violin lesson this past Wednesday!
God is good!

Love, love, love all the photos!
Enjoy these 1/2 days with Sophie.

Yeah, you are back! We've missed you and the updates on Sophie. My, she seems to have grown so very much! I am excited for her to be playing soccer and violin! That is so awesome for her! Sounds like it is going to be a great year for her! The pictures are beautiful.
So good to "hear" from you again! Wow, Sophie is in K!! I'm glad to hear things are going so well. :)
Sounds like you had a good and busy summer!
Hey Friend!!!
I am not one bit surprised that Sophie loves school!!! And, I am sure her teachers ADORE her!!! What a fabulous idea to share that book on the first day... Hearts are changing because of Sophie!!! And, her precious family!!! I LOVE the last photo of her looking back at you! Priceless!!!

Great pictures!!! :) Sophie and the boys have gotten so big!! How time flies!!
It was so, so good to visit and catch up this morning! Next time, I need to meet the little Miss! :)
Tami, I am in tears! So, so sweet! That last pic with her waving made me want to bawl! So cute. I have a hard time seeing my kids grow up even though I am very much enjoying the extra time. You have a beautiful family. So glad it's going so well with S's leg! Thanks for the update, too. I have missed you!
XO!
LOVE the photos! They are art ... and such a keepsake of this special time! Sophie is as beautiful as ever--and I love that she wears skirts and is so strong and confident in herself. THAT is beautiful!
I wish Easton had half day kdg. I miss him so much having him gone all day long! Thanks for the book links too. I want to suggest them to a few friends. Have you seen Kay Bratt's page and her journey back to the little sweetie with a limb difference that she wrote about in her book "Silent Tears"? You can link to it from my sidebar. It's under her blog and MeiMei Club I think.
Hugs,
Valerie

Oh, an update from one of my fav's in bloggy world!! Wohoo!
Your pictures are gorgeous!! And thank you for the book recommendations. I'll definitely put them on my list. I feel utterly unprepared for our next adoption, and doing some reading will help me :-))
Love, Barb
First off, can I say how much I've missed you!!?!! :) GLAD you are back!! I know how 'busy' life gets, though, and the further behind on blogging you get, the easier it is to let is slide 'just one more day'.
I can't believe litte Miss Sophie is already in kindergarten!! She is SOOOOOOO beautiful, Tami! I am so choked up just seeing these lovely photos and picturing her maturity as she answers such big questions. You are one very WISE mama, and I love that you helped prepare her class by sending such a neat book!
Give that Princess of your's a big ol' hug for me! Love you both SO much!!
Blessings,
~Tanya
