Prosthetic Humor

I thought to myself the other day of how funny some things that we say in our house would actually sound to someone who was unaware of the fact that Sophie wears a prosthesis and was just 'listening in'.

Could you imagine being outside our door and hear...

"Sophie, the school bus is going to be here soon....get that leg on, and get your backpack so you don't miss the bus!"

or maybe hearing...

"Sophie, I need you to stop leaving your leg laying around where people can trip over it."

This one always cracks me up...

Sophie yells from the other room..."Mom, I can't find my leg." I say (to quote one of her favorite 'Froggy' books)..."Sophie, it's where ever you left it."

Just the other day we were at the park and Sophie loves to be pushed on the swing. Now that the weather is cooler, she is wearing long pants and you would never know she's wearing a prosthesis. As she's swinging higher and higher, I say to her, "Sophie, let me know if your leg feels like it's going to go flying off so I can stop you....we wouldn't want it to hit another kid." I quickly found all the other moms within earshot just staring at me with a confused, somewhat concerned look. I guess I COULD have explained, but heck, I just chose to smile:-))).

We were in the checkout line at the store, and Sophie likes to sit in the front seat of the cart from time to time. We were in the checkout line and I was in the front of the cart unloading items. Next thing I know, I hear a loud thud. Sophie turns around and says loudly, "uh oh, mom...I just lost my leg!" (A large part of me thinks she did this just for the shock factor because she had quite a smile on her face when she said it;-))). I looked up and wished I could have taken a picture of the peoples faces behind us in line....priceless!

I LOVE the fact that Sophie is having fun with her leg....and we can all laugh about things now....

Sophie got a huge kick out of doing this....

I affectionately call it...'Which way do I go?'

And I walked into the room last night to find this...honestly, it's not staged...Finn's leg was actually in the prosthesis, which totally cracked me up.

Hope these made YOU smile today!

As always...God is good!
